Best Time to Visit and Weather Tips

Sri Lanka’s climate varies between regions, but generally, the best time to visit the hill country (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella) is from December to April when the weather is cool and dry. For beach destinations like Bentota, the optimal visiting period is from November to April, avoiding the monsoon season. Avoid the monsoons (May to September mainly affecting the southwest coast) to ensure sunny days and pleasant travel conditions. Carry light clothes for the coast and some warmer layers for the highlands where temperatures can be cool, especially in the mornings and evenings.

Practical Travel Tips for Indian Travellers

  • Visa: Indian citizens require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter Sri Lanka, which can be easily obtained online prior to departure.
