Spring brings beautiful cherry blossoms, creating picturesque views especially around Seoul’s palaces and parks. Autumn showcases stunning fall foliage, particularly vibrant in the mountainous areas near Busan.

Practical Tips for a Smooth South Korea Trip

Visa and Travel Documents

Indian travellers need to secure a South Korean visa before arrival. It’s advisable to apply well in advance through the official embassy channels or trusted travel agents. Keep all documents handy during travel, including hotel reservations and itinerary details.

Local Transport

South Korea has an efficient public transport system. In Seoul and Busan, metros and buses are convenient and affordable ways to get around. Using a T-money card (a rechargeable transport card) can simplify payments. For comfortable transfers between cities or sightseeing spots, pre-booked cabs or local taxis are also widely available.

Food and Dining

South Korean cuisine is diverse and flavorful. Must-try dishes include bibimbap, Korean BBQ, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), and fresh seafood in Busan. Street food markets offer budget-friendly options that let you sample many tastes. Be mindful that some dishes may be spicy; if sensitive, ask vendors for milder versions.

Culture and Etiquette

Respect for elders and polite behavior is important in Korean culture. When visiting temples or palaces, dress modestly and follow any posted rules. Basic Korean greetings or phrases like "Annyeonghaseyo" (Hello) are appreciated by locals. Tipping is not customary but rounding up bills or small gestures in restaurants is acceptable.

Packing Essentials

  • Comfortable walking shoes for city tours and coastal walks
  • Weather-appropriate clothing: layers for spring/autumn, warm clothes if visiting in winter
  • Universal power adapter for chargers
  • Personal medications and travel-sized toiletries
  • Copy of important documents and some local currency in INR and KRW
